Sky High BMX 6.5-Inch Subwoofer

The Sky High Car Audio BMX Series 6.5-inch subwoofer is rated for 500 watts RMS and is available with dual 1-ohm or dual 2-ohm voice coils.

The BMX 6.5-inch subwoofer gives builders a compact option for:

  • Under-seat and behind-seat enclosures
  • Center-console bass builds
  • Custom door and rear-deck installations
  • Compact cars and hatchbacks
  • Motorcycle and powersports projects
  • Multi-subwoofer systems using several smaller drivers
  • Installations where a larger enclosure will not fit

Its compact diameter does not remove the need for the correct enclosure. Mounting depth, internal air space, cone clearance and amplifier power must still be planned around the exact subwoofer.

Sky High BMX 8-Inch Subwoofer

The Sky High Car Audio BMX Series 8-inch subwoofer is rated for 600 watts RMS and is available with dual 1-ohm or dual 2-ohm voice coils.

The BMX 8-inch provides more cone area than the 6.5-inch model while remaining practical for smaller enclosures and space-conscious installations.

Consider the BMX 8-inch for:

  • Compact truck boxes
  • Small trunk and hatchback systems
  • Single high-output 8-inch builds
  • Dual or multiple 8-inch systems
  • Custom enclosures with limited mounting space
  • Customers wanting substantial bass from a smaller footprint

Sky High BMX 10-Inch Subwoofer

The Sky High Car Audio BMX Series 10-inch subwoofer is rated for 2,500 watts RMS and is available with dual 1-ohm or dual 2-ohm voice coils.

The BMX 10-inch places the high-power BMX platform into a more compact format than the larger 12-inch, 15-inch and 18-inch models. It is a strong choice when serious amplifier power and excursion are required but enclosure space remains limited.

Consider the BMX 10-inch for:

  • High-output single 10-inch systems
  • Dual 10-inch trunk builds
  • Compact demo and competition-focused installations
  • Ported or bandpass enclosures designed for the exact subwoofer
  • Customers wanting large-subwoofer power from a smaller diameter
  • Builds with strong electrical and amplifier support

Sky High BMX 12-Inch Subwoofer

The Sky High Car Audio BMX Series 12-inch subwoofer is rated for 2,500 watts RMS and is available with dual 1-ohm or dual 2-ohm voice coils.

The BMX 12-inch provides a strong balance of cone area, enclosure practicality and high-output capability. It can be used for serious daily bass, trunk builds, demo systems and larger multi-subwoofer installations.

The BMX 12-inch can make sense for:

  • Single high-power 12-inch systems
  • Dual 12-inch trunk builds
  • Large ported enclosures
  • Fourth-order and sixth-order systems
  • Demo vehicles and competition-focused projects
  • Customers wanting BMX performance without moving to a 15-inch or 18-inch model

Sky High BMX 15-Inch Subwoofer

The Sky High Car Audio BMX Series 15-inch subwoofer is rated for 2,500 watts RMS and is available with dual 1-ohm or dual 2-ohm voice coils.

The BMX 15-inch provides increased cone area for customers who have room for a larger enclosure and want powerful low-frequency output from a serious high-excursion subwoofer.

Consider the BMX 15-inch for:

  • Large trunk, hatchback and SUV systems
  • Single or dual 15-inch ported builds
  • Blow-through installations
  • Fourth-order and sixth-order enclosures
  • Loud daily and street-demo systems
  • Projects supported by high-power amplifiers and upgraded electrical systems

Sky High BMX 18-Inch Subwoofer

The Sky High Car Audio BMX Series 18-inch subwoofer is rated for 2,500 watts RMS and is available with dual 1-ohm or dual 2-ohm voice coils.

The BMX 18-inch offers the greatest cone area in the BMX lineup. It is intended for large builds with enough room for the required enclosure, port area, bracing and safe cone clearance.

The BMX 18-inch can work well for:

  • Large SUV and hatchback builds
  • Wall and no-wall systems
  • Single or multiple 18-inch installations
  • Demo vehicles
  • Competition-focused bass systems
  • Projects with substantial amplifier and electrical support

Do not force an 18-inch subwoofer into an undersized enclosure simply because its basket fits. The box and vehicle must provide the correct internal volume, loading, port design and clearance for the subwoofer to operate properly.

Choosing the Right BMX Subwoofer Size

The largest subwoofer is not automatically the best option. Begin by measuring the vehicle and determining how much passenger or cargo space can realistically be dedicated to the enclosure.

Choose the BMX 6.5 or 8-Inch When:

  • Space is limited.
  • The box must fit under or behind a seat.
  • You are planning a multi-driver compact system.
  • You want strong bass without sacrificing the entire vehicle.

Choose the BMX 10 or 12-Inch When:

  • You want serious output with a more manageable enclosure.
  • You are building a trunk or truck system.
  • You want a high-excursion single or dual subwoofer setup.
  • You have enough amplifier power and electrical support for a 2,500-watt RMS subwoofer.

Choose the BMX 15 or 18-Inch When:

  • You have substantial enclosure space.
  • Deep bass and increased cone area are priorities.
  • You are building an SUV, hatchback, wall, blow-through or demo system.
  • The complete installation is being designed around the subwoofers.

Dual 1-Ohm vs Dual 2-Ohm BMX Subwoofers

The D1 and D2 versions are not different power levels. The voice-coil configuration determines the available wiring options and final impedance presented to the amplifier.

For one dual-voice-coil BMX subwoofer:

  • A dual 1-ohm model can normally be wired to a 0.5-ohm or 2-ohm final load.
  • A dual 2-ohm model can normally be wired to a 1-ohm or 4-ohm final load.

Multiple subwoofers create additional wiring possibilities. Decide how many subwoofers will be installed and what final load the amplifier is designed to support before selecting D1 or D2.

Never connect an amplifier below its rated minimum impedance. A load that is too low can increase current demand, heat and stress while causing protect mode, blown fuses or equipment failure.

Match the Amplifier to the BMX Subwoofers

Choose an amplifier by comparing its rated RMS output at the completed impedance with the combined RMS rating of the subwoofers.

Before selecting the amplifier, confirm:

  • The RMS rating of each BMX subwoofer
  • The selected D1 or D2 configuration
  • The number of subwoofers being installed
  • How the voice coils and subwoofers will be wired
  • The completed final impedance
  • The amplifier’s RMS output at that impedance
  • The amplifier’s minimum stable impedance
  • The required power wire, ground wire and fuse protection
  • Whether the charging system can support the amplifier demand

The Subwoofer Enclosure Is Part of the System

A powerful BMX subwoofer can still perform poorly in an incorrectly designed enclosure. The box affects low-frequency extension, output, efficiency, cone control and how the system loads inside the vehicle.

Before building or purchasing an enclosure, verify:

  • Recommended net internal volume
  • Suitable enclosure design
  • Recommended tuning frequency when ported
  • Required port area and port length
  • Subwoofer, port and bracing displacement
  • Mounting depth and cutout diameter
  • Cone and surround clearance
  • Terminal and speaker-wire clearance
  • Available space and loading direction inside the vehicle

Plan the Wiring and Electrical System

Higher-powered BMX systems require properly sized wiring, secure grounds, correct fuse protection and enough battery and alternator support to maintain stable voltage.

Complete the installation with a properly selected Sky High Car Audio amplifier wiring kit and compare Sky High Car Audio Big 3 kits when upgrading the vehicle’s main charging and grounding paths.

A Big 3 upgrade does not increase the alternator’s rated output. Large BMX systems may also require additional battery capacity, a high-output alternator or other electrical upgrades based on the actual amplifier demand.

Set Gain, Crossovers and Filters Correctly

Amplifier gain is used to match the amplifier’s input sensitivity to the signal source. It is not an extra volume or power control. Excessive gain can produce clipping, heat and damaged voice coils.

The low-pass crossover should keep unwanted upper frequencies out of the subwoofer system. A properly selected subsonic filter can also help protect BMX subwoofers in ported enclosures from excessive movement below the enclosure’s useful operating range.
