Sky High Car Audio MR Series Midrange Speakers
Shop Sky High Car Audio MR Series midrange speakers for louder vocals, stronger musical detail and improved front-stage output. This collection includes 6.5-inch and 8-inch speakers in standard MR and bullet-equipped MRB designs for amplified doors, custom speaker pods and high-output mids-and-highs systems.
All four speakers use a 4-ohm impedance and are sold individually. Choose the correct size and design according to your available mounting space, amplifier power, crossover plan and whether the system will use separate tweeters.
Sky High MR vs MRB Midrange Speakers
The standard MR speakers are dedicated midrange loudspeakers without an integrated bullet driver. They are a strong choice when the system already uses separate tweeters or horns and you want individual control over the midrange and high-frequency sections.
The MRB speakers add an integrated bullet driver to the center of the speaker. This can provide additional upper-frequency output from the same mounting location and may simplify custom doors or speaker pods where installing a separate high-frequency driver is not practical.
- MR64 and MR84: Dedicated midrange designs for systems using separate high-frequency drivers.
- MRB64 and MRB84: Midrange speakers with integrated bullet drivers for broader output from one location.
The bullet-equipped models can provide more upper-frequency presence, but the best option depends on the complete system. A dedicated midrange combined with properly installed separate tweeters may provide more placement and tuning flexibility.

Choosing Between 6.5-Inch and 8-Inch MR Speakers
Choose a 6.5-Inch MR Series Speaker When:
- The vehicle has a compatible 6.5-inch speaker location.
- Available mounting diameter is limited.
- You are building compact speaker pods.
- You want to install multiple speakers in one door.
- An 8-inch speaker will not clear the window or interior panel.
Choose an 8-Inch MR Series Speaker When:
- You have room for a larger mounting opening.
- You want more cone area from each speaker location.
- You are building custom doors or larger pods.
- The front stage must keep up with substantial subwoofer output.
- Stronger midrange presence from fewer speaker locations is preferred.
An 8-inch speaker is not normally a direct replacement for a factory 6.5-inch opening. Custom fabrication, a spacer, reinforced baffle or modified door panel may be required.
Choosing Between MR and MRB Speakers
Choose the Standard MR Design When:
- The system already has separate tweeters or horns.
- You want independent control over the mids and highs.
- A DSP or active crossover will control each speaker section.
- You want flexibility when choosing high-frequency driver placement.
Choose the MRB Bullet Design When:
- You want additional upper-frequency output from one speaker location.
- There is limited room for separate tweeters or horns.
- You are building a simpler custom-door or pod layout.
- Strong projection from each individual speaker is a priority.
Do not assume an integrated bullet automatically removes the need for careful tuning. The speaker still requires clean power, proper crossover protection and level matching with the rest of the system.
Amplifier and Impedance Planning
Every MR Series speaker in this collection uses a 4-ohm impedance. One speaker connected to one amplifier channel creates a straightforward 4-ohm load, but connecting multiple speakers to the same channel changes the final impedance.
Two matching 4-ohm speakers wired in parallel create a 2-ohm load. Confirm that the amplifier is stable at the completed impedance before connecting multiple speakers.
Before choosing an amplifier, verify:
- The RMS rating of each speaker
- The number of speakers connected to each channel
- The completed impedance per channel
- The amplifier’s output at that impedance
- The amplifier’s minimum stable impedance
- The required crossover settings
- The speaker-wire size and total cable length
Browse 4-channel amplifiers for midrange speakers or compare Sky High Car Audio amplifiers when planning power for the MR Series.
Use Proper Crossover Protection
Sky High MR Series speakers are designed for midrange and upper-frequency output. They are not subwoofers and should not be forced to reproduce deep bass.
A properly selected high-pass crossover helps reduce excessive cone movement, distortion and unnecessary heat. The appropriate setting depends on the exact model, amplifier power, mounting location and intended listening level.
The 6.5-inch MR64 and MRB64 product information recommends beginning around a 160 Hz high-pass setting. The MRB84 product information recommends approximately 100 Hz. Final tuning should still be performed around the complete system rather than using one setting blindly for every installation.
Speaker Mounting and Door Preparation
Strong speaker output requires a solid mounting surface. A powerful midrange mounted to a loose or flexible panel can create rattles, vibration and lost output.
Before ordering or cutting the panel, check:
- Speaker cutout diameter
- Overall frame diameter
- Mounting depth
- Magnet and basket clearance
- Window-track and regulator clearance
- Door-handle and lock-mechanism clearance
- Mounting-hole pattern
- Grille and interior-panel clearance
- Speaker-wire routing
Use a strong baffle or speaker pod, secure the mounting hardware and verify that every speaker is wired with consistent polarity.
Build a Complete Mids-and-Highs System
Standard MR speakers can be combined with car audio tweeters when the system needs separate high-frequency drivers.
Customers wanting additional punch between their subwoofers and midrange speakers can compare Sky High Car Audio midbass speakers.
Use properly sized Sky High Car Audio speaker wire for the amplifier power, speaker quantity and total cable length.
