Sky High Car Audio CX Slim Series

Shop Sky High Car Audio CX Slim Series full range coaxial speakers in 6.5-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch sizes. These shallow-mount speakers are designed for customers who want loud, clear vocals, musical detail and strong full range output without the mounting depth required by many conventional high-output speakers.

The CX Slim Series can be used in amplified doors, custom speaker pods, kick panels, motorcycle audio systems, show vehicles and other installations where space is limited but strong mids-and-highs output is still important.

Choose the correct speaker by comparing the available mounting space, speaker diameter, cutout size, impedance, RMS power requirements, amplifier output and crossover needs listed on the individual product page.

Sky High CX Slim Speaker Sizes

The Sky High CX Slim Series gives builders three size options for different installation spaces and output goals.

6.5-Inch CX Slim Speakers

The 6.5-inch CX Slim speaker is the most compact option in the collection. It may work well in factory-style door locations, smaller custom pods, kick panels and multi-speaker door builds where available space is limited.

Choose the 6.5-inch CX Slim when:

  • The installation uses a common 6.5-inch speaker opening.
  • Mounting depth is limited.
  • You are building a compact speaker pod.
  • You want to install multiple speakers in one door or panel.
  • A larger 8-inch or 10-inch speaker will not fit properly.

A nominal 6.5-inch size does not guarantee direct factory fitment. Some vehicles may still require a mounting adapter, spacer, custom baffle or door modification.

8-Inch CX Slim Speakers

The 8-inch CX Slim speaker provides more cone area than the 6.5-inch model while keeping the shallow CX Series design. It can be a strong choice for larger custom pods, amplified doors and front-stage systems that need more output from each speaker location.

Choose the 8-inch CX Slim when:

  • You have more mounting diameter available.
  • You want additional output from fewer speakers.
  • You are building custom door panels or speaker pods.
  • The speaker system needs to keep up with stronger subwoofer output.
  • A standard-depth 8-inch speaker will not clear the installation area.

An 8-inch speaker normally requires more installation space than a common factory door speaker. Measure the cutout, mounting depth, basket clearance and grille clearance before ordering.

10-Inch CX Slim Speakers

The 10-inch CX Slim speaker is the largest option in the series and is intended for custom installations with enough panel area for a larger full range speaker. It can provide builders with more cone area when designing large doors, custom pods, rear panels and high-output mids-and-highs systems.

Choose the 10-inch CX Slim when:

  • The build has enough space for a 10-inch speaker.
  • You want the largest available CX Slim option.
  • You are building large custom doors or speaker panels.
  • You need strong output from a limited number of speaker locations.
  • The system is being planned around proper aftermarket amplifier power.

A 10-inch full range speaker is not normally a direct factory replacement. Custom fabrication, a strong mounting baffle and careful clearance measurements will usually be required.

Why Choose a Slim Full Range Speaker?

Mounting depth is one of the biggest problems encountered when installing upgraded speakers. A speaker may match the advertised factory diameter but still interfere with parts inside the door or panel.

Common clearance problems include:

  • Window tracks and window regulators
  • Door braces and reinforcement bars
  • Factory wiring and electrical connectors
  • Door handles and locking mechanisms
  • Interior trim panels
  • Factory speaker grilles
  • Limited depth inside custom speaker pods

The CX Slim Series helps address these problems by providing higher-output full range speaker options with a shallower mounting design. The exact dimensions still vary by model, so always check the individual product specifications before cutting or modifying a panel.

Full Range Coaxial Sound From One Speaker Location

A coaxial speaker combines the main cone and high-frequency section into one speaker assembly. This allows the CX Slim Series to reproduce vocals, instruments, musical detail and high frequencies from one mounting location.

This design can simplify installations where there is not enough room for separate midrange speakers, tweeters and horns. It can also help create a cleaner speaker layout in custom doors, pods and panels.

A CX Slim speaker may be a strong option for:

  • Loud daily-driver systems
  • Amplified front doors
  • Custom multi-speaker door panels
  • Motorcycle fairings and speaker pods
  • Show and demonstration vehicles
  • Systems where factory speakers cannot keep up with the bass
  • Installations requiring strong output with limited mounting depth

CX Slim Speakers Are Not Subwoofers

Even though the CX Slim Series includes larger 8-inch and 10-inch speakers, these are full range speakers—not subwoofers. They are designed to reproduce the main musical range, vocals and high-frequency detail rather than deep subwoofer bass.

Trying to force deep bass through a full range speaker can create excessive cone movement, distortion, heat and possible speaker damage. Use a properly selected high-pass crossover and allow the subwoofer system to reproduce the lowest frequencies.

Amplifier Planning for CX Slim Speakers

Sky High CX Slim speakers should be matched with an amplifier based on the RMS power rating, speaker impedance, number of speakers and final load connected to each amplifier channel.

Before choosing an amplifier, confirm:

  • The RMS rating of each speaker
  • The impedance of each speaker
  • How many speakers will be connected to each channel
  • Whether the speakers will be wired in series or parallel
  • The completed impedance on each amplifier channel
  • The amplifier’s power output at that impedance
  • The crossover settings required by the speakers

Connecting multiple speakers in parallel lowers the final impedance. Never wire an amplifier below its minimum stable load.

Use Proper Crossover and Gain Settings

A high-pass crossover helps block deep bass frequencies that can cause excessive movement and distortion. The correct crossover setting depends on the exact CX Slim model, speaker size, amplifier power, mounting location and desired listening level.

Amplifier gain should also be set correctly. Gain is used to match the amplifier’s input sensitivity to the signal coming from the radio, line-output converter or DSP. It is not an additional volume or power control.

Too much gain can introduce clipping, harsh sound, excessive heat and damaged speakers. Begin with safe crossover settings and tune the system carefully after verifying all wiring and impedance loads.

Measure the Installation Before Ordering

Check more than the advertised speaker diameter before choosing a CX Slim speaker.

  • Speaker cutout diameter
  • Overall speaker diameter
  • Mounting depth
  • Basket and magnet clearance
  • Mounting-hole pattern
  • Window and door-mechanism clearance
  • Interior-panel and grille clearance
  • Required baffle or spacer thickness
  • Available space for speaker-wire connections
  • Panel strength and mounting support

A strong speaker should be mounted to a solid baffle or panel. A weak or flexible mounting surface can create rattles, vibration and lost output even when the speaker and amplifier are properly matched.
