Sending frequencies that are too low to a midrange coaxial speaker can cause excessive cone movement, distortion, overheating and possible speaker damage. Use a properly selected high-pass crossover and allow dedicated subwoofers and midbass speakers to handle the lower portions of the system.

A high-pass crossover protects the speakers from frequencies they are not designed to reproduce. The correct setting depends on the exact speaker model, amplifier power, mounting location, listening level and the other speakers used in the system.
Amplifier gain should be used to match the amplifier input sensitivity to the source signal. Gain is not an additional volume control. Excessive gain can introduce clipping, harsh output, heat and speaker failure.
