Sky High Car Audio FMX Series 6.5" Subwoofer – 600W RMS D1/D2
Sold by AudioSellerz.com
The Sky High Car Audio FMX Series 6.5-inch Subwoofer delivers serious low-frequency performance from a compact platform. Rated for 600 watts RMS, this small-footprint subwoofer is built for tight installations, creative enclosures and multi-subwoofer systems where space and output both matter.
The FMX 6.5 combines a triple-stacked Y35 ferrite motor, 2-inch high-temperature voice coil, 5.5-inch progressive spider and Sky High 10-gauge direct leads. A forged carbon-fiber cone and recessed forged carbon-fiber dust cap provide a strong, stealthy appearance, while fiberglass support beneath the cone adds rigidity.
Choose between dual 1-ohm and dual 2-ohm voice-coil configurations based on the number of subwoofers, amplifier capabilities and final impedance planned for the completed system.

Compact FMX Performance
The FMX 6.5-inch subwoofer brings the construction and design of the FMX lineup into a compact format. It is made for systems that need more output than a basic small subwoofer but cannot accommodate the enclosure required by a larger 10-inch, 12-inch, 15-inch or 18-inch driver.
The Sky High FMX 6.5 can be a strong option for:
- Behind-seat truck enclosures
- Under-seat installations with sufficient clearance
- Center-console bass systems
- Compact trunk and hatchback builds
- Custom space-saving enclosures
- Single high-output 6.5-inch systems
- Multiple-subwoofer arrays
- Systems where output and enclosure space must be carefully balanced
Its compact diameter does not eliminate the need for a properly designed enclosure. The box must still be built around the requirements of the FMX 6.5 rather than chosen only because it has a 6.5-inch cutout.
Forged Carbon-Fiber Cone Construction
The FMX 6.5 uses a forged carbon-fiber cone and recessed forged carbon-fiber dust cap. Fiberglass support beneath the cone adds rigidity for controlled movement during demanding use.
The triple-stacked Y35 ferrite motor provides the motor structure behind the subwoofer, while the 5.5-inch progressive spider helps stabilize the moving assembly. Sky High 10-gauge direct leads provide a secure connection without relying on small conventional push terminals.
Dual 1-Ohm vs Dual 2-Ohm
The D1 and D2 versions have the same 600-watt RMS rating. The difference is the final impedance each voice-coil configuration can provide.
- One dual 1-ohm subwoofer can normally be wired to a 0.5-ohm or 2-ohm final load.
- One dual 2-ohm subwoofer can normally be wired to a 1-ohm or 4-ohm final load.
Multiple FMX 6.5-inch subwoofers create additional wiring options. Choose D1 or D2 based on the total number of subwoofers and the safe operating impedance of the amplifier.
Review the subwoofer wiring diagrams and final ohm-load guide before selecting the voice-coil configuration.
Match the Amplifier to 600 Watts RMS
Match the amplifier using the correct 600-watt RMS rating for each FMX 6.5-inch subwoofer. Do not use the 3,500-watt rating associated with the larger FMX Series models when planning power for this compact version.
Before choosing an amplifier, confirm:
- The number of FMX 6.5-inch subwoofers being installed
- Whether each subwoofer is D1 or D2
- How the voice coils and subwoofers will be wired
- The completed final impedance
- The amplifier’s RMS output at that impedance
- The amplifier’s minimum stable impedance
- The required power wire and fuse protection
- The available battery and alternator support

Use an Enclosure Designed for the FMX 6.5
The enclosure affects low-frequency extension, output, efficiency, cone control and reliability. A compact subwoofer can still perform poorly or become damaged when installed in an incorrectly designed box.
Before building the enclosure, verify:
- Recommended net internal volume
- Suitable enclosure design
- Port area and tuning when applicable
- Subwoofer and port displacement
- Mounting depth
- Cutout diameter
- Cone and surround clearance
- Direct-lead and speaker-wire clearance
- Available space and loading direction inside the vehicle
Read the complete subwoofer box and enclosure guide when planning the box portion of the system.
Power Wiring and Electrical Support
The amplifier must receive stable power through properly sized wiring, secure grounds and correct fuse protection. Electrical requirements increase when multiple FMX 6.5-inch subwoofers and larger amplifiers are installed.
Browse Sky High Car Audio amplifier wiring kits and Sky High Car Audio Big 3 kits when planning the wiring and charging paths.
A Big 3 upgrade strengthens important charging and grounding connections, but it does not increase the alternator’s rated output.
Set Gain and Filters Correctly
Amplifier gain should be used to match the amplifier’s input sensitivity to the source signal. Gain is not an additional volume or power control.
Excessive gain can create clipping, heat and voice-coil damage. Low-pass crossover and subsonic-filter settings should also be selected around the amplifier, enclosure design, tuning frequency and intended operating range.
Read how to set amplifier gain for subwoofers before completing the final tuning.
